“Rebuilding Sheridan”

CONSTRUCTION & MAINTENANCE UPDATE

WEEK OF June 29th – July 5th, 2008

From the Desk of Mayor Dave Kinskey

THERE’S A LOT GOING ON IN SHERIDAN!!!

Linden Area Construction Project

This project has been completed and looks great! We do want to remind residents that maintenance of the new sod and trees is the homeowner’s responsibility. Updates were mailed out to residents outlining the proper care for newly installed sod and newly planted trees. Sod failure after installation is almost always the result of lack of watering. If you did not receive the update with sod and tree care instructions, please call City Hall at 674-6483, ext. 223 and we will mail the instructions to you. Thanks to the entire neighborhood for their patience throughout the project.

North Broadway North Gould Construction Project

This should be a fairly quiet week on this project – comparatively speaking. Preparation for paving will continue. The paving from 11th to 8th is currently scheduled for next week. This week, concrete work will take place mid week for two days with curb & gutter on 8th Street plus additional sidewalk. Work on the base course from 5th Street, north for one-half block is planned. The Contractor will be placing notices on doors just prior to paving or curb & cutter so that vehicles can be moved. For more information please attend the weekly construction meetings held every Tuesday @ 1:00 PM at the corner of 13th Street and Gould Street. Thanks to everyone for their patience through out this project.

Brooks Street Reconstruction

Beginning Monday, Brooks Street will be closed from the Alger intersection to Dow. Sheridan State Bank customers will need to access the bank from either Dow or Mandel. The approach to the County Library on Brooks Street will be closed. The Brooks/Alger intersection will likely be closed on Wednesday to accommodate utility installation in the area. On Wednesday, asphalt will be placed within the alley between main and Brooks, closing the alley to through traffic. The alley access will be re-opened permanently on Thursday. The Brooks/Dow and the Brooks/Alger intersections will be open to eastbound and westbound traffic temporarily from July 10th – 13th for Rodeo weekend. For more information, please attend the weekly construction meetings held every Wednesday at 8:30 AM on 3rd floor at City Hall. Please be cautious as construction activity increases and traffic control varies as the project progresses.

Rotomill & Overlay Project

Work on this project has been postponed until after July 4th. If you have questions about this project, please call Joe Schoen, Project Manager at 675-4237. News letters will continue to be mailed out for this project updating residents of upcoming work and street closures. For more information, please attend the weekly construction meetings held every Friday at 9:00 AM – (location changes weekly – call Joe Schoen for this week’s location).

North Heights Avenue Reconstruction

The City of Sheridan is pleased to say that the North Heights Avenue Project is complete. The contractor will have the asphalt core holes filled by June 27, 2008. Residents whose yard was affected by the project are urged to water the newly placed sod on a regular basis. On behalf of the City, Vista West Engineering, and CB Trucking and Backhoe, we would like to thank all of the area residents for their patience throughout the construction process.

Lewis Street Sidewalk

Work on this project continues east from Highland Avenue moving towards the bottom of the hill.

Huntington Drainage Project

The contractor will be working in the detention dam area for the next few weeks. Work will be concentrated at the dam, with the 36” Reinforced Concrete Pipe (RCP) installation the main focus. When the 36” RCP is in-place, the outlet structure will begin, which will control the dam schedule. Waste material will be hauled off the site starting this week. Hauling will be to cemetery via S. Linden Ave to Huntington St, then west to Cottonwood Dr, then to elks cemetery (west side). Traffic control will be in place before hauling starts. Public meetings will be held at the detention dam site every Thursday at 9:00 a.m. Interested parties are encouraged to attend.

Street Sweepers

Continue to clean downtown area daily. This week they’ll start back in with north and south lead-ins followed by West Works, Loucks, Burkitt and the north hill.

Streets Crews

The Street Crew will continue to repair pot holes throughout the community along with working on other maintenance activities. To report pot holes in your neighborhood, please call the City Service Center at 674-4112.

Utility crew

The crew will be flushing the water mains east of Coffeen Ave. and the east side of Main Street. They will continue to work on root control in the sanitary sewer lines on the south hill. This crew also does video inspections of new construction projects.

Parks Crews

The Parks Crew will be removing graffiti, mowing and doing regular maintenance on the sprinkler systems. Crews planted some beautiful new trees in Washington Park and the cemetery last week. The trees were generously donated by First Federal Savings Bank.

Cemetery Crew

Crews will be mowing the rapidly growing grass and performing regular maintenance on the sprinkler systems.

This is the schedule every week, weather permitting.
